Victorian Oamaru Historic Precinct
Built from the 1860s onwards, Oamaru's elaborate limestone bank buildings, grain and wool stores, shops and offices in the early business district, are today occupied by an interesting blend of artisans, craftspeople, cafes, galleries and traditional businesses.
Over forty businesses bring the Victorian Precinct alive as a contemporary continuation of the Arts and Crafts movement and at the same time provide visitors with an authentic look into the past.
Each November the town’s Victorian heritage is celebrated in fine style. Penny Farthing Races, World Stone Sawing Championships, a Victorian Fete, Garden Party, Victorian Ball and Steampunk exhibitions are just a few of the events that ensure Oamaru’s Victorian Heritage Celebrations are enjoyed and remembered by the many people who take part.
